Who am I? My name is Hampherny Rico—better known on social media as @HamphernyR—and I am the founder of CriptoCatia, a Bitcoin Cash adoption project that has been working hard to drive the adoption of Bitcoin Cash in Venezuela since early 2022. To briefly summarize CriptoCatia’s work: we have directly engaged over 1,700 students and indirectly influenced the onboarding of more than 3,000 people, including students, merchants, and users of other cryptocurrencies. This has been achieved through the steadfast efforts of our multidisciplinary team, which maintains a direct presence within universities. Even during periods when workshops and activities were not being held, students from these institutions have continued to actively promote the use of Bitcoin Cash through their own entrepreneurial ventures. CriptoCatia is once again preparing educational initiatives regarding Bitcoin Cash for university classrooms in Venezuela, following positive results in terms of adoption among young students and entrepreneurs who favor a free, fast, and fee-free payment system. Inflation in Venezuela continues to rise, prompting people to use cryptocurrency platforms like Binance to exchange USDT for bolivars (and vice versa); however, this offers them no real benefit, and many find Binance's fees burdensome. This makes it an ideal time to introduce Bitcoin Cash to more people as electronic cash for their daily transactions. Business owners and farmers have opted to use Bitcoin Cash because it offers great convenience, allowing them to bypass platforms like Binance and even traditional banks. The daily fluctuation of the bolívar-to-dollar exchange rate is a constant source of worry and financial loss for them; Bitcoin Cash solves this problem because, despite its price volatility, it remains profitable and relatively stable compared to the national fiat currency. Proposal. We propose starting by holding workshops at universities in Caracas, as that is where we have received our initial invitations; however, we also plan to cover the neighboring state of Miranda, which sees a high daily volume of retail and wholesale trade. These workshops will provide a basic yet comprehensive education on cryptocurrencies—covering their origins with BTC, as well as the split and the advantages of BCH as a currency intended to function as the true Bitcoin. The aim is to deliver a thorough session on technical aspects and explain in detail why BTC was created, along with the primary objective of electronic cash in the present and future. It is important to inform the community that we will use the book Hijacking Bitcoin for bibliographic references and base part of our educational content on it, in addition to showcasing this important book to attendees and encouraging them to read it. We hope to bring a batch of books for sale soon and give some copies to participants. Each student who attends will receive a Cash Stamp to add to their first Bitcoin Cash wallet. They will also receive BCH merchandise and information about its latest products, as well as brochures and pamphlets with basic but direct educational content about BCH, covering the most valuable and important aspects. Request for funds. We are requesting funds from the Bitcoin Cash community to conduct educational workshops on Bitcoin Cash at universities in Venezuela. It is important to highlight and clarify that this is a truly demanding undertaking requiring significant dedication; it involves constant coordination and meetings with university authorities—who often require some form of support to authorize holding workshops on their campuses—a process with which we are already familiar thanks to the workshops we conducted in 2023. Having direct communication with university authorities is truly important and necessary to enable this work to be carried out. We are requesting 36 BCH from the community—calculated at a rate of $230 to $270—to cover all necessary costs for this initiative, specifically: Merchandise: 12 BCH This includes CriptoCatia uniforms—comprising a new BCH polo shirt and a varsity-style jacket—for the instructors leading classes for students and workshop attendees. Brochures and leaflets featuring basic educational content that directly addresses the problems BCH solves. Printed t-shirts to give to participants. BCH keychains, stickers, and phone grips. Decorated BCH gift bags for each participant—containing the aforementioned items—placed on their seats prior to the start of the educational workshop. Our goal is to create a special experience that leaves a lasting impression, directly linking the memory to the day they first learned about Bitcoin Cash. Operating expenses: 7 BCH Operating expenses cover the transport of all work materials and equipment to the workshop venue—including the use of a truck to haul tools needed for decorating and setting up the space—as well as round-trip transportation for each team member supporting the workshop. These expenses also include meals for the team during each session. Finally, operating expenses will include costs associated with official business and meetings with university authorities, such as any expenses arising from these meetings (e.g., refreshments for the officials in attendance). Support for Universities: 6.5 BCH This aspect had not previously been communicated to the community. In our past adoption efforts, institutions would often request financial support to provide the classrooms where workshops were held; most requests involved cleaning supplies, repairs, or even fiat currency to pay for work done by laborers. Consequently, for this campaign, we decided to set aside a specific amount of BCH to cover these costs, ensuring we wouldn't have to cut spending in other vital areas of the project. While this might look like a venue rental fee, it is entirely understandable that universities request such support, given the country's long-standing economic crisis and the resulting state neglect of these institutions. Tips for new users: 7 BCH Typically, when onboarding each student, a tip of $1 or $2 in BCH is provided to their new wallet; for this initiative, we will use user-friendly wallets for onboarding, such as Selene Wallet. We aim to onboard over 1,300 new users, and for this reason, we have set aside this specific amount of BCH. Payments to the team: 3.5 BCH CriptoCatia has a community that could extend to a wide range of students, merchants, and individuals reached through various channels; however, we have selected the young people who are most attentive and committed to the consistent use and promotion of Bitcoin Cash. These individuals will work alongside the team every day, doing whatever is necessary to ensure the best possible outcome for this new adoption drive across Venezuelan universities. It is important to reward these individuals for their time and effort; therefore, I have set aside this amount of BCH to be used as a bonus payment for the time worked by each team member. The team will consist of more than five young people who will assist us with every task; each will be rewarded with bonuses of $50 and $75 per workday, depending on the time spent and the work performed in the workshop. Some of them will be present at the proceedings and meetings with the authorities, also providing support by capturing photos and videos of these encounters to share with the community. To wrap up this campaign, I want to tell the entire community that this support represents a major investment in the adoption of Bitcoin Cash in Venezuela during this new phase. It is also important to clarify that, even without this support, we will still move forward with planning these educational workshops; however, relying solely on our own efforts makes the timeline uncertain.
